Secretarial Course

The programme equips you with the requisite secretarial skills for immediate application in the workplace. The secretarial profession covers a range of careers that focus on giving support to key role-players in business, including senior managers and executives. The programme enables the relevant use and application of skills and competencies including computer literacy, effective communication skills and administrative and organising skills as a member of a team. The qualification offers access into further studies in administration, secretarial studies and studies for specialisation as a Personal Assistant.

The course aims to provide participants with detailed information on how to prepare for and handle their duties successfully and a “toolkit” of skills and techniques for managing the demands of their role. Upon completion of the programme, candidates will be able to:

  • Understand the basic principles, qualification and skills of a secretary.
  • Manage time effectively and efficiently.
  • Contribute and manage the challenges of manager’s needs including appointments and meeting.
  • Prepare business communication, reports and how to manage telephone calls.
  • Establish cordial relationship with the customers and other stakeholders.
  • Gain knowledge on the basic filing and archiving system


  • COURSE DURATION:60 hours

    COURSE CONTENTS

    The programme consists of three units that requires 66 hours to be completed.

    Unit 1: Office Administration [48 hours]
  • Secretarial qualification and skills - an introduction [2 hours]
  • The secretary’s role in maintaining an effective operation [6 hours]
  • Secretarial organization and information management [6 hours]
  • Handling the manager’s requirements [6 hours]
  • Managing correspondence [6 hours]
  • Dealing with customers [6 hours ]

  • Unit 2: Business Communication [14 hours]

    This unit aims to develop trainees’ ability to communicate effectively through writing creative memos, notes, e-mails, formal letters, reports, agendas and minutes of meetings.

    Unit 3: Practical Computing [ICT] [14 hours]

    This unit is practically-oriented where trainees are introduced to .the applications of MS Word and Excel in the secretarial roles. MS OFFICE 360 Advanced Level.
